Your site may be intended for the US market, but that doesn't mean it's necessarly hosted there.  Some search engines tailor their results by adjusting search results match the physical location of the individual performing the search.  So, if your hosting with a cut-throat hosting provider overseas, this could be negatively affecting your placement in search engines.
